Udogu Award for Scholarship and Humanitarian Contributions to Africa

 

“THE FIDELIS E. UDOGU AWARD FOR SCHOLARSHIP AND HUMANITARIAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO AFRICA”

NOMINATIONS FORM FOR THE “FIDELIS E. UDOGU AFRICA AWARD FOR SCHOLARSHIP AND HUMANITARIAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO AFRICA”

Professor Ike Udogu, a founding member and former ASRF Director of Research and Publications established the Udogu Award in honor of his late father, Pa Fidelis E. Udogu. The ASRF Standing Committee shall select the honoree for this award in accordance with the stipulated guidelines. The winning candidate will be presented with a cash award from the association as and when funded by Professor Ike Udogu, and the ASRF will also present a plaque to the honoree on behalf of the association.

ELIGIBILITY: The nominees for the award may be members or non- members of the African Studies and Research Forum (ASRF).

THE EVIDENCE: The standards for selecting the recipient or recipients of the award shall be based on the following:

I. SCHOLARSHIP

a) Publications
i) Books
ii) Monographs
iii) Book chapters
iv) Journal articles
v) Book reviews

b) The Presentation of papers at professional conferences

c) Scholarly lectures delivered

d) Service on the editorial board(s) of journals and book series

e) Manuscript reviews done for journals and book publishers

II. HUMANITARIAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO AFRICA

a) Contribution(s) made to the provision of books and other instructional materials to academic institutions in Africa either singularly or as part of a collective effort.
b) The Establishment of scholarship program or financial contributions made to help support the education of students in Africa or African students studying in the United States or elsewhere outside of Africa.
c) Contribution(s) made to a development project—health, infrastructural, etc. — in Africa either singularly or as part of a collective effort.

THE TIME FRAME: A nominee’s scholarly and humanitarian contributions to Africa must be based on the previous two years prior to the nomination.

The Nomination Process: Members of the African Studies and Research Forum (ASRF) may either nominate themselves or other members of the organization for the award.

The Selection of the Recipient or Recipients: After reviewing the nominations for the award, the Standing Committee on Awards will choose the recipient or recipients. Thereafter, the list of the recipient or recipients shall be submitted to the President of the ASRF.
